The Weather Channel is predicting snow for parts of Georgia today. I guess no one is being spared from this nasty winter weather. Of course, a little snow is nothing compared to the 40 below temps other parts of the country dealt with last week. Still, it’s a sign that Old Man Winter is far from packing up and moving out. This might be good news to kids who are itching for another snow day, but for most parents winter has already overstayed its welcome.
If you are looking for new ways to beat cabin fever, consider the following:
Freeze Dance. Crank up the tunes and get the kids dancing. When the music stops everyone must freeze in place. See who can make the funniest pose and snap some pics of the winner.
Indoor Easter Egg Hunt. Easter may be a few months away, but that doesn’t mean you can’t dig out your plastic eggs for a rousing indoor hunt.
Obstacle Course. Design an indoor obstacle course complete with overturned tables, chair climbs, and beanbag tosses. To make the game more challenging use a timer and see who can make it through in the best time.
Fun with Marshmallows. Open a bag of mini marshmallows and fill a bowl with toothpicks, then let your kids design edible snowmen, spiders or other figures.
Build a Fort. Raid the closet for blankets and quilts and then build forts from furniture and large boxes.
Make Beanbag Pals. Fill socks with dry beans and secure with a rubber band. Next, embellish your beanbag pal with buttons, glitter glue or markers. It’s a fun and easy craft projects that will keep kids busy for hours.
Tournament Time. Make it a day of contests. See who can make the most baskets with newspaper balls or who can build the tallest LEGO tower. Or, set up game stations with different activities: Coloring, puzzles, art projects, cards and then every 15 minutes get the kids to switch activities.
