We all have bad days. You know, the days when you wake up and the kids do not cooperate, a co-worker says something to break your spirit, and you cannot wait until bedtime. Although rushing through my day and waiting with baited breath for the end of the day is no way to go through life, I have done it myself as well. It does not make me feel too good either, but I have been there. I usually end up feeling guilty that I wished for such a thing because life is just too short as it is.
On those days I usually try to make myself “snap out it” by remembering another day in my past that was filled with happy memories. If this does not work, I reverse my brain and fast forward into the future of an upcoming date that is something that I am looking forward to. This might be a bit of a mind trick, but yes, I do resort to them occasionally and believe it or not, they get me through the day reasonably well.
Remember, when you are having a bad day to mutter these few, simple words, “this too shall pass.” Be thankful for what you have and focus on your responsibilities. Dragging yourself down with woeful thoughts does nothing, but encourages failure and weakens your spirit leaving little room for happiness and accomplishment. It is too easy to crawl into bed and pull the covers up over your head blocking out the outside world. Doing this will get you into a rut that is difficult to pull yourself out of. Surround yourself with positive thoughts and people. Laugh it off and contemplate how your day could be much worse. Go home and hug your children. Hopefully, good days will outnumber bad days, but when they do not, remember, it cannot last forever…..this too shall pass.
