Celebrity Headlines: “High School Musical” Returns and Oprah Gets a New Dog

It was just a matter of time before we were all in this together… again.

Disney just announced that it plans to go back to school with “High School Musical 4.”

The fourth edition of the cult phenomenon will reportedly begin production later this year and air sometime in 2010. Disney sources say the popular musical will include a few new twists this time around, including the introduction of a new cast of characters and a storyline that will focus on a cross-town school rivalry.

Disney execs say they are hoping the new characters will draw a record number of viewers to the flick, which will air on the Disney Channel. You’ll recall that’s where the mega-popular musical got its start. The original “High School Musical” drew an audience of 7.7 million when it debuted in 2006. The next year “High School Musical 2” more than doubled its predecessor with 17.2 million and “High School Musical 3,” which was released in theaters in 2008, made more than $40 million its opening weekend.

OPRAH WINFREY GETS A NEW PUPPY

Just like her boy Barack Obama, Oprah Winfrey is getting a new puppy. Actually, she already got it.

According to reports, the queen of TV talk and her longtime boyfriend, Stedman Graham, adopted an 8-week-old blonde-colored cocker spaniel on Sunday. The puppy was a resident at PAWS Chicago shelter, which has been featured on Winfrey’s daytime talk show a number of times.

PAWS officials say Oprah’s new pup was one of a litter of six and was named Amanda by shelter staff. However, the people at PAWS say they don’t know if Winfrey planned to rename the dog.

Barack’s BFF is a die-hard dog lover. At one point Winfrey confirmed that she had seven dogs living at her homes in Chicago and California. However, the talk show host’s beloved cocker spaniels, Sophie and Solomon, died last year and prior to that, her golden retriever, Gracie, choked to death on a plastic ball. She still has two golden retrievers, Luke and Layla.

Last year Winfrey vowed to adopt her next dog from a shelter after dedicating a show to puppy mill horrors. Her pick, PAWS Chicago, where she also donated money in Sophie’s name in order for a room to be built in honor of her cherished pampered pooch.
