When a celebrity auction occurs, it seems that everyone wants a piece of the action. This week, several items have sold for quite a nice sum.
A first edition Harry Potter book, Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, was auctioned off by Dallas’ Heritage Auction Galleries and brought in $19,000. While you can find a copy of the first Harry Potter book much cheaper, you won’t be able to find a first edition. There were only 200 copies printed as opposed to the millions after the book became a success. Oh, and this one is also autographed by J.K. Rowling, which I am sure added to the value.
This, however, isn’t the most expensive Potter book sold. In 2008, an 800 word prequel was sold to benefit a writer’s group and a dyslexia charity. It was also signed by Rowling, but even better, it was handwritten by her as well. It brought in almost $50.000.
It seems as if Michael Jackson has an infinite amount of belongings to be sold as we often read about Jackson auctions. Julien’s Auctioneering House is selling more of his stuff, but Jackson is trying to put a stop to it. Among the belongings for sale are the gates to Neverland Ranch as well as Jackson costumes, artwork, and furniture. The items are set to go on sale in late April, but Jackson sued the company to retain what he called his “personal property.” The company has now counter-sued Jackson, saying he was aware of their intentions to put the items up for bid.

And finally, a suit worn by Sean Penn in the film Milk has been auctioned off for $12,500. The auction was held to benefit Variety – The Children’s Charity of Southern California and the Hetrick-Martin Institute. The auction was held by Clothes Off Our Back and the outfit that was sold was designed to match the one worn by Harvey Milk on the November 7, 1978 election night.
