How to Get Your Home in the Movies 2

movie If you missed the first post in this series, click here: How to Get Your Home in the Movies.

How much can I make?

The typical fee for renting out your home can be anywhere from $1,000 to $20,000, depending on the style of the house, the size of the house and who is interested in using your house. The average reimbursement for using your home in a movie, television show or commercial is generally about $3,000 a day.

What is involved?

Casting scouts will look at several properties and then decide on the right one. A “casting is usually set up the same day, especially for commercials, which means that it is helpful if there is someone home during the day to take the call, sign the contract and do any prep work, such as picking up clutter in the home or moving any vehicles parked outside. If someone isn’t available when a call comes in, then your home will probably be passed over for that particular shoot.

There is also some disruption of your life, especially if the film crew needs to have the house for more than one day, since you won’t be able to live in it during that time.

All legitimate opportunities come with insurance in case your property is damaged in some way, although as I understand it, the crews are all pretty professional and careful when using a location.

Where do I sign up?

First, you’ll need to locate a casting service that deals with homes and location rentals. This is the best and safest way to go. A service will list your home. You will need to submit enough information on your home to get started, including photos, and you may be able to register with a service online. If your property is accepted into the service, you will have to sign a listing agreement.

You can call your local studio and find out who they use for their location service.

Meanwhile, here are some home casting services to get you started.
