Will the Subway Diet Work?

A lot of Americans are trying to lose a quick pound or two and some are trying to lose
even more than that. Most people have a good grasp of the basic principles of weight
loss; get some exercise, burn some calories, and eat less, or at least eat better.
One man who figured out that principle and ran with it is Jared Fogle. Is the name not
familiar to you? Then think Subway Jared. He lost two hundred and forty five pounds
eating nothing but Subway sandwiches. To lose that kind of weight is miraculous, and for
him it was life altering and life improving. To make matters even better, he was able to
lose that kind of weight eating nothing but food that most Americans seem to think is
pretty darn delicious.

Jared Fogle got an endorsement deal out of his weight loss, as well as the right to brag on
national television (a right he very much earned). By following the Subway diet you too
can get one of the three things that Jared got: skinnier. (I hope you did not think you
could get air time on national television.)

Jared Fogle’s diet was to eat a six inch sandwich, usually turkey, for lunch, and a twelve
inch, or foot long sub, for dinner. His dinner was usually a veggie sub. For beverages, he
drank as much diet soda as he wanted. Diet soda seems to be preferred by a lot of people
and Subway is one of the most popular food chains in America, so it is hard to beat his
diet plan as far as taste buds are concerned.

Of course, there are a few rules that he followed steadfastly, rules that not everyone will
like. For one thing, he avoided cheese. He also did not put mayonnaise on his sandwich,
nor did he add any oil. This means no ranch dressing, no Caesar dressing and be careful
with the new sauces that Subway creates. Mustard is fine and, for flavor, it is hard to beat
a quick shot of vinegar.

As for the bread, it is best to avoid the new Subway breads that have cheese or seeds on
the outside. Whole wheat bread and the breads with oats are best and white bread is not
too bad either.

As for the sandwiches themselves, it is not necessary to follow exactly what Jared ate;
after all, variety is the spice of life. Chicken breast sandwiches are quite lean and healthy,
and the ham sandwiches are not bad either. Occasionally, roast beef can be added to the
mix as well.

In addition to Jared’s diet, it would be a good idea, nutritionally speaking, to add a light
breakfast. Oatmeal, fruit or a low fat yoghurt would be good, as well as a glass of skim
milk for calcium. Jared did not include breakfast in his diet plan and this can be
detrimental to your productivity throughout the day.

Following Jared’s diet plan will not make you as famous as him; it may not make you
famous at all. But it will make you healthier and it will please your taste buds, unless of
course you don’t like good food.
