Twittermania

Okay, call me old, but I am just not into Twitter. Oh sure, I am on there (http://twitter.com/lpelham), but I already have MySpace and Facebook and I usually update my statuses there, why bother with Twitter? And seeing everyone else’s updates like that just seems a bit manic.

But, it appears I am alone in not twitting as the rest of the world seems to be in love with it. I blogged a while back about singer Erykah Badu’s childbirth being twitted online, play by play. Now, a Twitter battle is on.

Ashton Kutcher is hoping to beat CNN to the one million follower mark. Apparently it is a real neck-in-neck race and Kutcher has promised to “ding-dong-ditch” CNN founder Ted Turner’s house if he wins. I had no idea what ding-dong-ditch meant, but I looked it up. It means to ring someone’s door then run. I had no idea it had an official term!

Kutcher was going to award the one millionth follower with “Guitar Hero” but then realized how hard it would be to know who exactly that was.

Even Larry King got in on the mock battle, saying, “Are you kidding? Do you think you can take on an entire network? Do you know how big we are? Do you know what CNN is? Kutcher, you’re playing out of your field. You’re in another time zone. This ain’t gonna work. CNN will bury you!”

If you think that surely Kutcher and CNN must be at the top of the twitter follower ranking, you are wrong. comScore, an Internet traffic analyst, had four million followers as of February. And, not lagging too far behind is talk show host Ellen DeGeneres. Ellen’s show has over 800,000 followers.

Just in case you are interested, you too can follow Ashton, CNN, comScore, or Ellen at Twitter.com.

About Libby Pelham

I have always loved to write and Families.com gives me the opportunity to share my passion for writing with others. I work full-time as a web developer at UTHSC and most of my other time is spent with my son (born 2004). I love everything pop culture, but also enjoy writing about green living (it has opened my eyes to many things!) and health (got to worry about that as you get older!).
