Homeschool Resource of the Day: LEE & LOW Books

LEE & LOW BOOKS are creative books for children that focus on and celebrate ethnic diversity. You will find story books from all ethnic perspectives such as African American, Asian, Latino and other ethnicities. These are award winning books, some of which have been written by new and emerging authors and illustrators getting their first break into the world of publishing. LEE & LOW BOOKS “takes pride in nurturing new talent”.

While LEE & LOW books focus on diversity and not specifically on homeschooling, they have realized the value of providing resources to homeschooling. They have created a homeschool section of the LEE & LOW website that provide supplement materials to the books that further brings out the educational value of the books. You will find these in the teachers section.

The homeschool page features Activities for Homeschoolers by Anastasia Suen, Diversify Your Homeschool Plan with Vanishing Cultures, Classroom Guides for the active learner, and more. From the website:

“Our activities are designed for use with individuals or small groups of children. The activities are FREE and are most useful when used along with our books. The books may be purchased directly through our Web site or borrowed from your local library.”

As a homeschooling parent, I wish I had come across these books years ago when my kids were younger. While they may still be interested in some of the books, my teenagers are a little old for the majority of the titles. I feel like we have missed out on a great wealth of amazing stories. Still, there are some young adult and middle years books available.
