Mother’s Day Flower and Vase Craft

Sure, you can give Mom flowers for Mother’s Day, but what about an everlasting bouquet with a homemade vase instead? The kids will enjoy making this craft, and Mom will love it!

Flowers

You will need:

Colored paper

Scissors

Brad

Green pipe cleaner

1. Cut a bunch of petal shapes out of colorful paper. Scrapbook paper works well, as it’s more durable than construction paper, but any colored paper will work. Cut a round center for the flower out of a contrasting color.

2. Stick a brad first through the middle of the flower, then through the base of each of the petals. If the paper is thick, you can punch a small hole in each one first. Fan the petals out to form the flower.

3. Wrap the end of the pipe cleaner several times around the brad behind the flower. Open the brad to hold everything in place.

Vase

You will need:

Empty glass bottle or jar or plain vase

Tissue paper

Scissors

Mod Podge or 2 Tbls. white glue mixed with 2 Tbls. water

Paint brush

1. Cut shapes from the tissue paper. Cut several of each shape.

2. Paint some Mod Podge or glue solution on a small section the bottle or jar. Stick on a tissue shape. Paint more Mod Podge or glue solution over the top of the tissue and add another layer. Continue until the shape is as opaque as you would like. Don’t worry about getting one layer exactly on top of another layer. It looks fine if they are a little off.

3. Continue adding tissue shapes all over the bottle or jar. When you are done, paint a coat of Mod Podge over the whole thing.

4. Let dry. The Mod Podge will dry clear.

Use this vase for your fake flowers only–Mod Podge is water soluble, so it won’t stand up to getting wet or washing.
