So, we saw that to be sure of getting into heaven we need to be born again. But how can you be sure you have been born again? We saw that being born again is a work of the Spirit. We can’t see the Spirit just as we can’t see the wind, John 3:8. We can see where wind has been and what it has done.
We can see where The Holy Spirit has entered a life and changed the person. We can see the evidence of a changed life in several ways.
The simple test of whether you are born again is this. Have I believed? John 3:15. Do I believe Jesus is who He says he is and have I put my trust in Him? Are you prepared to speak up publicly and align yourself with Jesus? Nicodemus was, see John 7:50 and John 19:39. It wouldn’t have been easy to speak up against the other Pharisees and the majority or to ally himself with Jesus in his death but Nicodemus did. Jesus had changed him. He was no longer afraid to show his allegiance to Jesus. Are you?
Jesus paid the price for your sin by dying on the cross. By doing this Jesus made sure we have the opportunity of becoming part of God’s family. Before the cross Jesus often talked about the Father as His Father, John 14:7,10,13, John 15:1,8-10, John 17;1, 5,11,21,24-25.
It is only after his death on the cross and resurrection that he talks of God as ‘My Father and your Father, my God and your God,’ John 20:17. Believers, like the disciples, are no longer servants or friends. They are brothers – part of God’s family. We are too if we believe in Jesus and follow Him.
How much does God love us? Enough to send His Son that we can come into His family, John 1:12. When we believe in Jesus we can be sure we are ‘born again.’ We have passed from the darkness into the light.
