The money used for entertainment is most household seems to be growing year by year. Whereas previous generations listed food as their biggest expense (after housing), for modern families, entertainment costs can rival food expenses. Here are three different ways to get free entertainment.
The Library
If you haven’t visited your local library in a while then you are really missing out. Of course there are plenty of books to be had, saving you anywhere from $7 to $30 a read. There are also audio books, movies, music and even video games to check out. If you use the library’s interlibrary loan system, you will have access to even more titles. Why pay money for something that you can get for free?
I am so surprised by the fact that people don’t take advantage of the free resources in their area. Tonight for example, our church is offering a two-hour free ice cream event for kids. Our town park will host many movie nights that include free popcorn, as well as several other events and shows. A neighboring town offers free music concerts. Also, speaking of libraries above, the library also sponsors many free events, from reading, chess and Lego clubs, to story time and lecture series, all for free.
Anywhere You Volunteer
But what if you want some specific form of entertainment, such as a sports game, a theater show or even the circus for free? Simply offer to volunteer. Many places will exchange one night of volunteering for one night of the show, and you can often bring your family. Also, you may be able to catch your show while you are volunteering. Door greeters or ticket sellers, for example, may be done with their work when the show starts.
Do you know of any other ways to get free entertainment?
