Acts of Love

When you think of acts of love, perhaps you think of the obvious one like the sexual act, kisses, cuddles and the like. Sure they are important acts of love. But there are others.

What constitutes an act of love might well depend on the couple and the circumstances at the time. For example recently Mick attacked our clothes line with a broom and spider spray. He knows I am frightened of spiders and hate the thought of one crawling inside clothes while they are drying in the sunshine. Having been on the receiving end of a spider bite after one crawled inside my clothes while I was watering the garden one day, I have no wish for a repeat experience. So Mick regularly takes the spider spray to the clothes line sweeping down the webs that tend to quickly accumulate.

Every evening he checks ht bedding just to make sure nothing has crawled in during the day. Since our daughter was bitten by a spider that got into the bedclothes years ago.

This week we went and saw X Men Origins: Wolverine. It’s not the type of movie I would usually choose to go and see except I knew it was a film Mick wanted to see. I knew he would enjoy it. A review of it will appear shortly on the media blog

Other times the act of love might be me cooking him a home made pie, which I plan to do this weekend. My husband loves home made steak and mushroom pie.

In your marriage acts of love might be something entirely different to the examples I shared. It might be encouraging him to learn a new skill, it might be washing up before the other person has to get up and do it. It might be carefully washing a special cardigan as a young man I know did recently for his wife, so that when she needed it for work it was all ready for her. It might be giving your spouse a day where they can catch up with friends or a weekend away with family without feeling guilty. It might be something as simple as a phone call to check if your spouse needs any shopping on the way home from work. They’re all acts of love.

Happy long lasting marriages are made up of random acts of love, done purely because you love your spouse and want to please them and let them know you’re thinking of them when you’re apart. Why not think today how you can show your spouse that you love them by an act of love. Once you’ve thought of what it could be, and then make sure you do it.
