Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs is a movie that the whole family will enjoy. It is filled with just enough peril and danger to make it exciting yet it teaches a lesson in taking care of your family no matter how differently your family may be or who your family consists of. The main characters in this movie were wooly mammoth husband and wife, Manny and Ellie, squirrels Scrat and love interest/nut competitor, Scratte, possums Crash and Eddie, weasel Buck, Sid the sloth, and Diego the sabre-toothed tiger. There is also Rudy, the feared dinosaur of gigantic proportion who sends all of them into hiding.
This movie was extremely sweet and funny. The audience that was present when I saw it consisted of the very young child to the elderly grandmother. Everyone was laughing. The positive aspects of this movie were a great deal of the sticking by your “family” concept. The negative aspects of this film were some very mild occasional crude humor. There is one slang word towards the end of the film that parents may find objectionable; however, I am not sure that the little ones will catch it. This movie may contain some frightening parts for very small children as it does involve a couple of very large dinosaurs, various smaller dinosaurs and discussion on the nourishment of carnivores in general. It did not show this, but it was implied.
I enjoyed this film so much mostly because of its adorable characters and “motherly” tenderness between Ellie and Sid towards their “children” that took place. A movie that will warm your heart, make you laugh, and keep you at the edge of your seat in anticipation of what will happen next, Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs, is an endearing movie. This movie ended happily, of course, with the pregnant, Ellie, giving birth to baby Peaches whom the whole “family” took on as their own.
