Walking Through My Day

I am so thankful for my job. Not only do I appreciate it because of how hard it is to hang on to a job right now, but also that I am doing something that I enjoy. The people at my job that I work with are like extended family. The residents who live there are amazing people. Going to work is like going to visit 72 grandpas and grandmas. It is chaotic most of the time and extremely busy. The day flies by though and before you know it, it is time to go home.

Another reason that I enjoy my work is that I can keep active. I walk about five miles a day at work. My feet and legs are tired, but it helps to keep the weight off. I clocked myself on three of the days that I worked using my pedometer. I did this for two separate weeks. I was amazed to find that I was walking five miles. No wonder I am so tired. Although the doctor says that it does not really count as exercise because it is not a continuous five miles, I feel that it is very helpful to my health. I look at it as I could either be sitting for that time period at a desk or moving about. I think that the latter is far healthier than the previous.

Even with all of this walking I still try to come home and do some other kind of exercise. You would think that with all of this exercise I would be thinner. It is irritating, but I try not to think about it. It drives me crazy with frustration sometimes. I guess that I should look on the bright side. I have not gained any weight.

My suggestion is to get a pedometer. They really do not cost that much and it is interesting to see how much you walk in a day. They say to strive for 10,000 steps a day, which is approximately five miles so I guess that I am doing well. A pedometer will give you some idea of how well you are doing with your walking each day.

If you find that you are on the low end of the walking quota, increase your walking little every few days. Over time this will build up and before you know it you will reach that magic mark of 10,000 steps.
