Autumn Activities for the Entire Family

If you have a house full of kids, who range in age from toddlers to teens, then finding an activity the entire family can enjoy is challenging to say the least. That’s the beauty of art projects; they can be centrally located (in a specific room or table), but tailored to fit a variety of ages and interests.

The following autumn-themed art projects will get you in the mood for the new season. What’s more, it will help bring a touch of nature into your home minus the mud and bugs:

FOR YOUNGER KIDS:

FALL MASTERPIECES

Materials:

Glue and liquid tempera paint (in a variety of colors)

Paintbrush

2 equal-size sheets of wax paper

Colorful fall leaves

Flowers, pine needles, and other natural objects

Glitter

Hole punch

Piece of string, less than 12 inches in length

Directions:

Mix glue with paint.

Paint the glue onto one sheet of wax paper. The paper should be well coated with glue.

Have your child stick colorful leaves and other natural objects onto the paper.

Sprinkle glitter over the leaves.

Paint glue onto the other sheet of wax paper, and then place it on top of the first sheet.

Press the sheets together.

Punch a hole near the top, and then use string to hang the picture in a window.

FOR OLDER KIDS:

APPLE CANDLEHOLDERS

Materials:

Large red apples (with an even bottom that will stand nicely on a table)

Candles

Waxed paper

Potato peeler

Apple corer

Lemon juice

Directions:

Use apple corer to make a hole about halfway through the middle of the apple, making sure that the hole is as straight as possible.

Remove the core and discard.

Insert candle into the hole. It should fit tightly; if the hole is too large, wrap waxed paper around the candle’s end.

Older kids can decorate the apples by carefully carving designs in the skins with the tip of a potato peeler.

Use lemon juice on apples to prevent them from turning brown.

Arrange the apple candleholders on a plate or tray and use them as a centerpiece on your table.
