Yesterday I talked about all the things that are easier to enjoy or accomplish when you are child-free. Here are some more things you can do to enjoy this season in your life while you wait for your baby to arrive and change your life forever. Why spend your whole life always waiting for the next big thing? Seize the day and enjoy the moment!
Nap or go to bed when the mood strikes. Take advantage of the fact that you can hit that pillow whenever you like. You’ll miss it soon enough!
Eat slowly. Pretty soon, you’ll be taking turns shoveling in PB&J while the other bounces your little one on their knee. Or, you’ll try to pack in meal prep and dinner into your baby’s 30 minute catnap. Either way, there’s no time for a slow leisurely meal when a baby is in the house.
Enjoy your hobbies. Free time diminishes once you have a baby, so take advantage of all that free time you have now by finishing your summer reading list, going on that bike ride, or whatever else you’ve been putting off. I still have four or five crochet projects I have not touched since my son was born. I’m sure I’ll get to them eventually…. someday… I hope!
Talk on the phone. Babies figure out early on that you’re not talking to them when you’ve got that “thing” pressed up against your ear, and they’ll let you know if they’re feeling ignored. It’s hard to talk on phone when your baby is crying or trying to join in on the conversation, so if you’ve been meaning to call your Aunt in Maine, do it now.
Host parties. Dinner parties are much more entertaining when they are not interrupted by bath time, crying episodes and stinky diapers. Plus, you don’t have to worry about asking your guests to keep the volume down because “the baby is sleeping.”
