How a Closet Clean Out Can Save You Money

If your closets are bulging with clothing, shoes and other accessories, then congratulations. A messy closet can save you lots of money and may even earn some money for you. But first, you have to get organized. Clean out that closet. Set aside a few minutes a day for weeks or an entire weekend, but get it done. Here are several reasons how a closet clean out can save you money.

Find new things

Whenever you do a closet clean out you may find things that you forgot that you ever had. There may even be shoes still in the box or clothing that still has it tags. Stuffed in a bag in the back of the closet or hung up in the back among other items, it might have been missed. Think about it as shopping in your own closet for free. Remember, sometime you can’t see the trees for the forest, or the great outfits for the clutter. By cleaning out a bin in my attic recently, I came across several dresses that I can wear today. Whoo hoo.

Avoid replacing things

Do you need a new pair of black shoes for an upcoming event? Hmm, yes, that could be something needed, unless you already have three other black pairs that will work just as well, somewhere in your closet. A messy closet can give you plenty of opportunity for losing things, and sometime when you just can’t find something, you wind up buying it all over again. Sometimes you don’t even know that you had it in the first place. Although this doesn’t have to do with a closet, it is the one reason why we now own four vegetable peelers. A friend of mine discovered that she had two of the exact same shirt, and this wasn’t on purpose. She had admired the shirt and purchased it, only to stuff it in her closet. Several weeks later when she saw the shirt again, she forgot that she had purchased it originally, and wound up with two!
