Some time ago I wrote about my frugal exception. In this blog I described the one thing that I really couldn’t cut corners on. My secret is that I never purchase used shoes. I prefer to get these new.
I nearly forgot about my Christmas sweater obssession. I love Christmas sweaters and try to get a enw one very year. But buying a somewhat gaudy sweater that I will only wear for one season is a collosal waste of money. Here are some furgual tips that I used to enjoy the Christmas sweater season each each year.
1. Keep it simple. You don’t have to have a sweater that depicts Santa pulling his sleigh. These are overpriced just because. Instead opt for a simple red sweater that can be worn year round after the season is over.
2. Check out the Fall Clearance racks. You can find a nice red or cranberry colored sweater from amongst the fall clearance collection.
3. Add a pretty christmas pin to the sweater to give it that special Santa clause or holiday theme.
4. Update last years sweater by sewing a white boa to your red sweater to give it the Santa Clause feeling. Alternately, you can sew on whie pearls or jems.
5. Recycle old christmas sweaters into pillows. If you have any old sweaters elaborate Christmas patterns, they will make lovely pillow covers. Plain red sweaters do a pretty good job as well. First wash and dry the sweater (preferably wool) in hot water to get it shrink. It will become very much like felt. Then take your pillow form, measure it, and cut out the front and back of the pillow from the body of the sweater.
