Normally, when you want to update your home’s look you would paint and change out your pillows, throw blankets, and update your accessories. If you have already taken these steps and still feel your home needs a little something more, you should try adding ribbon to your decorating scheme. Here are some ideas for using ribbon that will make a big impact with little money.
Hang ribbon behind decorative plates. Tie together a series of decorative plates by hanging a ribbon on the wall vertically. Make a bow at the top and let a long piece hang down. Arrange your plates in a straight line on top of the ribbon, but beneath the bow. Cut off the ribbon at an angle a few inches below the bottom plate. By doing this you can take three to five small items and make them look like one piece of art.
Create a window valance with ribbon. Cut several lengths of ribbon, enough to go all the way across the curtain rod with an inch in between each one. Tie the ribbons to the rod and tie a trinket perhaps and ornament to the end of each ribbon for a breathtaking treatment.
Update your old window treatments with ribbon. You can ribbon to turn regular simple curtains into balloon shades. Just cut two long pieces, twice the length of the window plus about six inches. Hang the pieces over the curtain rod at the center so an equal length is on both sides of the curtain. Bunch up the curtain at the bottom, and tie the ribbon at the height that you want the curtain to be.
Create a feature wall with ribbon. Pick a section of wall that you want to feature and use ribbon to make a loose woven or criss-cross design on the wall. Use upholstery nails to hold them in place for a beautiful and creative treatment.
Use ribbon to hang your pictures. While ribbon may not be strong enough to hang a framed pictures, you can create the illusion of hanging the pictures on ribbon. Just attach a piece of ribbon to the upper corners of the artwork and tie them together above the frame and pin it to the wall so that it looks as if the picture is hanging from the ribbon when it fact it is hanging from the hardware behind the picture.
