Winter Break Travel Specials For Families

Don’t let the fear of nut cases with liquid explosives strapped to their bodies poised to bring down jumbo jets ruin your family’s winter travel plans. In the wake of the failed Christmas Day (alleged) terror plot on Northwest Airlines flight 253, several airlines have been actively promoting their “Kids Fly Free” deals.

Here’s a look at one of the best packages available:

Note: Reservations must be booked by December 31, 2009.

United Airlines and American Airlines have teamed up with Vail and Beaver Creek resorts in an effort to give your family quality time on the slopes this winter. The amazing deal allows kids to fly, ski, and stay for free. You can expect to save at least $500 per child by taking advantage of the special. That’s some serious savings.

Here’s how it breaks down: The free airfare portion of the offer is valid on direct flights to Eagle Airport in Vail with the purchase of one adult ticket on either American or United Airlines. Upon your arrival at Eagle Airport, kids will also receive free transportation to Vail and Beaver Resorts. It’s a 35-mile journey that would typically cost about $45. At the resorts kids stay and ski free, which will save you at least $200. To qualify for the “Kids Fly Free” promotion you must book the flight and lodging together.

If you are flying on American Airlines the special offer is valid through February 10, 2010, but tickets must be purchased by December 31, 2009. Meanwhile, the United Airlines offer is valid January 6 through February 12, 2010. United also requires that tickets be purchased by December 31st.

Note that the deal requires that you fly to the resorts on any Sunday, Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday, and depart on any Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday or Friday. If you do so you can also take advantage of another deal being offered by the resorts. From now through February 10, 2010, Vail and Beaver Resorts are offering a “buy three, get one free” deal on skiing and lodging, which can also be combined, with the family offer. Simply purchase a three-night stay and three days of lift tickets and receive the fourth night stay and fourth day ski pass free.
