Romance– just the mere word is enough to send some guys running for cover. Others, like the young man last night who got down on bended knee in the sand with a little box and asked his girlfriend to marry him, know how to be romantic. Incidentally she said yes. It’s something that’s happened before on our beaches in summer and it is romantic.
As for the words romantic movie, some men wouldn’t be caught within a hundred yards of a movie theater showing a romantic movie. I’m glad my husband isn’t like this. His favorite movie is Casablanca. Another is The Illusionist- both are romances.
Yesterday given the dearth of anything worth watching on the TV over the summer non ratings period, we went and hired a few DVDs. And more than one of them are romances, included Enchanted which we both saw at the movies and loved.
Sometimes we may complain that our spouse isn’t romantic. Can I suggest that often it’s because when our spouses are romantic they often don’t get the right reaction?
Romance doesn’t run to a timer and so sometimes they might be feeling romantic when all we can think about is how many things we have to do and so on.
The trouble is if one partner makes romantic overtures and the other one is always making excuses or too busy or fails to respond appropriately, then soon they’re going to stop making them. So if you want your spouse to be romantic, make sure you respond appropriately when they are feeling romantic.
If you’re the one craving romance, pick your moments carefully which means not when he’s in the middle of watching the baseball or football, or when he’s tinkering with the car etc.
Sometimes it’s good to plan ahead and make a date to do something romantic. You’ll find some suggestions here. Whatever you do ensure you keep the romance alive in your marriage.
