Timing is everything. Knowing when to buy something can save you a significant amount of money especially when you purchase more expensive, larger or higher-end items.
Finding winter deals sometimes takes a little extra work, but it can be well worth it. The trick is pretty simple, though. Purchase items that are not in demand, and stores will reduce the price.
In the winter, after the holidays, think of those items that you need or want but are against the crowd. Sometimes you can easily purchase those type of items, and sometimes you have to be a bit more aggressive and ask for the items.
A good example of this is the artificial Christmas tree. You won’t find any of them out on the floor of the store, but you can find them. They will be “in the back” storage room of the store, or sent to a central warehouse. You may get up to 90 percent off, just for asking.
Other items that are generally good bargains are home decor, especially carpeting and other flooring, since most people fix up their homes before Thanksgiving, and then also in the spring. Once winter sets in, people are thinking of spending money on other things.
Winter is also a good time to by bicycles, camping equipment and other outdoor activity gear. New models come out usually in March to prepare for summer, so the old inventory gets reduced as early as January.
Hot weather items are also deeply discounted. You can still by air conditioners in the middle of February, but you will pay much less than what you would in summer. Look to home improvement stores, heating and air conditioning stores and hardware stores for the best deals. You may have to ask them to go into their stock, but it will be worth it.
