Television Good News and Bad News

If you are a fan of “How I Met Your Mother,” you may be happy to hear that the show will have several guest stars this season. In March, look for Jennifer Lopez to play self-help author Anita Appleby, a self-help author who plans to change womanizing Barney into a relationship guy. Also appearing on the show will be Carrie Underwood as Tiffany, Ted’s love interest.

If you are a fan of “Survivor” and “The Amazing Race,” you will be happy to hear that both shows have been picked up. CBS announced that there will be at least two more seasons (the 21st and 22nd) of “Survivor,” but will host Jeff Probst be there? His contract is up after this season, but my money is on that he will sign up for the next two installments. “The Amazing Race” has been picked up for a 17th season (the 16th starts Feb. 14).

If you are a fan of “Ugly Betty,” I have bad news. After only four seasons, Variety is reporting that the show has been cancelled by ABC. The network released a statement that said “We’ve mutually come to the difficult decision to make this Ugly Betty’s final season, and are announcing now as we want to allow the show ample time to write a satisfying conclusion. We are extremely proud of this groundbreaking series, and felt it was important to give the fans a proper farewell.”

The show brought in 16.1 million viewers for its first episode and won a Golden Globe for Best Comedy Series, but the ratings had dropped off. The network began moving the show around the schedule, which is never good for fans. It finally ended up on Friday night, where ratings continued to drop. It is believed the series finale will air in April.

If you are a fan of “Brothers and Sisters,” you will be seeing fewer familiar faces on the show. Rob Lowe announced just days ago that he is leaving the show and today, Calista Flockhart announced that she is reducing her role in the series although she will remain a regular.

About Libby Pelham

I have always loved to write and Families.com gives me the opportunity to share my passion for writing with others. I work full-time as a web developer at UTHSC and most of my other time is spent with my son (born 2004). I love everything pop culture, but also enjoy writing about green living (it has opened my eyes to many things!) and health (got to worry about that as you get older!).
