For most people, the right side of the brain is the side that focuses on creative pursuits, whether it is something like writing, painting or creating music, or whether it is something such as thinking outside of the box and problem solving.
Most of the time in the day to day living, couples tend to think using mostly the logical left brain. We go through our routines, pay the bills, get the kids off to school, go grocery shopping, head off to work, etc. That is not to say that there isn’t some right brain involved in all that, but it probably doesn’t get a chance to take over.
Using that more creative side can be really good for a marriage, especially when the two of you are in it together. Beside the fun of creative pursuits and the bonding that comes with having mutual adventures, stretching your creative side together will make it easier to tap into that creativity on a daily basis.
How can being in a creative state of mind help in a marriage. Well, for one it can make it more exciting, creative sex for a bold example. It can also make living on a daily basis easier, as you’ll be more likely to come up with creative solutions when problems seem hopeless or frustrating.
How do you start using that right side of the brain? One way to do this is to expose it to different creative opportunities. You might listen to a new genre of music on the way to work. You can buy finger paints or acrylic kids paint, and dive in together to create some new masterpiece to hang on a wall in your home. You can read poetry or write poetry together. Take an art, music or cooking class. Read one chapter from three different books in a single sitting and then try to come up with ways that they are similar. Plan out a garden. The possibilities are endless. The main thing is to get out of your normal comfort zone and try new creative things. Then you can be in your right minds together.
