Writing a Family Tree Book

There are several reasons that you may want to write a family tree book. You may want to include the stories you’ve learned about your ancestors while researching your family tree. You may also know that it would be a nice item to pass down to future generations.

You could write a family tree book by simply creating a document in a word processing program on your computer and doing it yourself. This is very simple to do.

Using your preferred word processing program, create a new document. If you wish, you can add clipart or photographs within the document. Here are some ideas of items to add within your book:

*Your family story

*Your father’s story

*Your mother’s story

*How your mother met your father

*The story of your childhood

*Your brothers and sisters

*Medical family history

*Family traditions and celebrations

*Military family history

*Family heirlooms

*Family gatherings and reunions

*Weddings

*Religious events

Personalize your family tree book to fit your own personal style and needs. Once you have completed your book, you’ll need to save it and print it.

I recommend saving the book by burning it to a CD or saving it to an external hard drive or flash drive. You may also want to make a backup copy to store in another location in case one is damaged.

To print your book, you can either print using your own printer or send the file to a print shop. If you send the file to a print shop, you will have options such as having it bound and adding protective covers.

If you choose to print your book at home using your own printer, you could still use a regular 3 ring binder to create your book.

In order to create a lasting book, use archival ink and acid free paper for your book.
