DVD Review: The Ashtanga Yoga Collection

If you want to practice Ashtanga Yoga, but can’t find convenient classes close to home, you can practice at home with The Ashtanga Yoga Collection.

In this DVD collection, yoga instructor Richard Freeman guides you though the breath and alignment of Ashtanga yoga sequences. This is a DVD box set that includes three DVDs: An Introduction to Ashtanga Yoga, The Primary Series and The Intermediate Series.

The first DVD in the series is An Introduction to Ashtanga Yoga. This DVD offers an introduction to the foundation of the Ashtanga yoga practice. The movements that combine breath and movement and meditation techniques are covered in this DVD.

The second DVD in the collection is The Primary Series. This practice includes the beginner series of asanas in Ashtanga yoga. This practice consists of 70 asanas and offers instruction in proper alignment in the poses.

The last DVD in the series is The Intermediate Series. This practice is a flowing series of asanas of varying difficulty. The practice includes flowing sequences and meditation to create joy in the present moment.

The technical instruction is detailed in this DVD series, making it a good choice for learning proper alignment in the poses. If you are looking for instruction to improve your practice, you may find this series to be beneficial.

Some beginning students of Ashtanga yoga may find some of the asanas in this practice to be difficult. It’s important to remember that yoga is a process and the poses can be modified, as needed. As you grow into the practice, you will be able to keep up with the full practice.

This series is actually good for people of varying levels of practice. You can use the parts that fit your needs at varying stages and increase your level of participation as you increase in flexibility and coordination.
