Make Camping Easy: The Camping Box

camping

I’d like to share a brilliant idea that I got from a friend. I’m implementing it in my own home over the next couple of months. It’s the idea of the camping box.

You see, I can’t stand packing. It is one of the things that I despise most in the world. Before every vacation, I spend at least a week dreading the packing and a day foully irritable while I’m actually doing it. It’s not that I’m not organized. I have packing lists. I have most of the things that we need. However, my lists simply serve to remind me that the packing is not done yet.

I lament that we do not have a camping trailer. If we did, I would keep it completely stocked with food, clothing, deck chairs, tarps, and other items so that we could take off at a moment’s notice without packing. Tired of listening to my whining, my friend suggested that I create my own virtual trailer, the camping box. I thought that it was a brilliant idea.

I’m getting several plastic boxes. I’ve made another list, but this time I’m packing for the entire summer. I’m collecting older clothes, medical supplies, even canned food. They are all going into their respective boxes. I’ll pack up the tent and the camp stove into another container. Then I’ll top it all off with some fresh vegetables, fruit, bread and milk for each camping trip, and we’ll be set. Theoretically. I have yet to test out this theory, but it sounds good to me. In fact, I’m even excited about packing!

There’s just one downfall to this plan. I can see that I will need to clean everything before I put it back into the boxes. Perhaps I’ll delegate that to my daughter. She can pound sand out of a tent, right?
