Are some cartoons too scary for toddlers? I have grown concerned because some of the cartoons on “Cartoon Network” seem to be scary. It may be fine for older kids, although I have my doubts, but for toddlers I think it is too scary.
Garfield is one of the cartoons that I wouldn’t think would be scary but then found one episode to be frightening to my son. Another cat, which looked like Garfield, turned into a monster and Garfield is shown shaking and quivering in fear. In my opinion, that is too scary for toddlers.
I know that some of the cartoons, especially those shown on “Cartoon Network,” are probably geared for older kids and it may even have an age recommendation shown somewhere. I just remember the time when pretty much all kids could watch pretty much any cartoon.
When I was a small child, I couldn’t wait until Saturday morning to watch cartoons. They came on a “regular” television channel and we didn’t have cable or satellite. There wasn’t a channel designated for cartoons.
I know that when I watch the older cartoons with my son, I sometimes comment that I can’t believe they do or say some of the things that are shown. I guess not all of the content seems politically correct now. I don’t know. What do you think?
I don’t remember being frightened by “The Smurfs” when they ran away from “Gargamel” but I do think maybe I would have been frightened by the scene in Garfield. Have cartoons changed so much that the content has become scary or am I paranoid because I don’t want to traumatize my son?
I know that many experts would say I’m wrong for letting my son watch any cartoons at all. I know television is bad for kids. At least, it can be bad. My opinion stands that in moderation, television isn’t that bad.
