Reaching Out

There’s a mission field just outside your door. There may even be one inside your home. Have you ever thought of your family, friends and neighbors as a mission field? God has placed you exactly where you are, so you can reach out to those around you with the truth of the gospel.

In a recent survey in America, 89 percent of those who did not go to church have at least one close friend who is a Christian. If you are a Christian, stop for a moment and think. How many non Christians can you number in your circle of friends and how are you sharing the gospel message with them? Or are you a silent Christian?

According to the survey 78 percent of non church people would be open to listening to someone tell them bout Christianity. Who better than family or a friend? Have you ever thought that maybe that person to tell them about Jesus is you? If they are willing to listen, what is stopping you from telling them about Jesus or at the least inviting them to an evangelistic talk?

Our church often has events where people can invite their non- Christian friends to learn more about Jesus. But why not just strike up conversation about God with them and ask what they think. You might be surprised.

I am constantly amazed at how quickly my daughter can get into deep conversations about Jesus with others. She has a real knack for reaching out but sometimes all it takes is providing the opening. When someone asks how was your weekend? Do you say, ‘great, I went to church and we learned etc?’ Do you share instances where God has answered prayer?

Once while talking with a neighbor I mentioned something I had learned from the bible. My neighbor said she didn’t have a bible. I bought her one but she claimed to have trouble understanding it. So I asked her if she’d like to get together and read it. She did. She wouldn’t come to church at that point but she was happy to meet one on one with me and look at what the bible said.

So you see it really is about taking the opportunities. Why don’t you try it this week?
