As a toddler parent, should I be singing the ABCs and 123s more than I do? I am always singing and talking to Jessie, but I forget these basic songs. We have a number of toys that stress the alphabet and Jessie enjoys playing with them. I still feel I should do more.
Today in Gymboree we had a substitute teacher. Kyle is really energetic and a lot of fun. He’s been training at our location for a few weeks now. Jessie hasn’t been too keen on Kyle because she’s generally not OK with men other than daddy.
She did great. She didn’t whine or shy away from Kyle at all. She even continued in her new trend of participating in the group activities. Kyle counted with the children today. We counted to ten in English and Spanish.
We have two different ECI therapists who come to our house. The developmental therapist comes once a week and the speech therapist comes twice a week. We have added group therapy to our ECI roster now. Group is a nice companion to Gymboree and the home therapies. There’s the benefit of learning to play with others and developmental play.
At group the children sang the ABC song and counted to ten. Jessie was counting and holding up fingers. She really enjoyed herself and that she could do this.
One of Jessie’s first toys after coming to live with us was a pink dog that sings the ABCs. My mom bought it for her at the Carter’s store because it made her laugh. We bought almost anything that could make her smile or laugh in the beginning. We took the dog with us to California for Thanksgiving after she turned one. Jessie’s first cousin once removed, my great niece, wanted to keep it. Jessie carried it around after group and sang along.
Jessie never ceases to amaze me. I’m so proud of her.
