Sometimes it may be easier to sit and let the world go by, and not really do anything to change situations that may be wrong. It may be that you are embarrassed, or would just rather avoid the hassle of correcting misinformation that you have heard. You may be uncomfortable because you know the awkward silence that will come as you tell people which church you belong to. Or you may be afraid that you will lose a good friend, because you tell them about the church.
In Romans 1:16 it reads: “For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth . . .” As members of the church we should not be afraid to stand up for what we believe in. We need to stand against the evils of the world. I have often found that things that have made me uncomfortable also make others uncomfortable. If you are the first to say that something isn’t right, usually others will support you in your opinion.
Often we do not realize who is watching our reactions, as well as our actions. The response that you make to a situation can influence people for either the good or the bad. The way that you live your life is an example to others. Hopefully you are striving to be a good example for those around you. As people see you make positive choices and the peace you gain from those choices. They will be intrigued and will begin to ask questions. This will give you the opportunity to share the gospel with those around you.
Standing for the truth may be as simple as walking away from a situation. It may be that you need to speak to someone about what has happened and ask that it be corrected. It may be a statement, which refutes the misinformation you have heard. It may be that you stand up against the pressure to do something that is against your beliefs. As you meet each of these challenges the Lord will strengthen you.
