Not long ago, I blogged about the most popular boy and girl names of the past 100 years, based on social security records. Today, BabyNameWizard.com released the hottest baby names of 2010. BabyNameWizard tracks names search on the Internet. It issued a report of the fastest rising 2020 baby names so far.
What peaked at #1 for the girls? The name Tenley, which makes me believe that some pregnant women were watching “The Bachelor” last season (Tenley Molzahn finished in second place). The second fastest rising name for girls was Harper. Have the moms been watching “Biggest Loser,” which features trainer Bob Harper or is it because this is the fiftieth anniversary of “To Kill a Mockingbird?”
If you don’t like Tenley or Harper, you might want to consider Everleigh (which I think is pretty), Martina, Sookie (Hey, it’s better than Snooki!), Navi, Charlotte (someone’s been to see Sex and the City 2), Eloise, Lorelai, and Ursula, which round out the top ten. The rest of the top 20 are: Briella, Kinley, Tinsley, Mhairi, Leighton, Maelle, Ever, Kinsley, Lux, and Everly.
What about the baby boy names? For the boys, it seems to be names that end with an “n,” although Castiel was at #1 and Bentley was at #2. I don’t know – Bentley just sounds like a car to me…or maybe a butler name. Rounding out the top 10 were Eoin, Easton, Lucian, Aarav, Zion., St. John, Kaiden, and Sterling. I like Easton, but am really not so sure about St. John. I mean, isn’t that a lot for a kid to live up to? The rest of the top 20 are: Callan, Leland, Harper (hey, apparently it is a unisex name!), Mikah, Dashiell, Eliah, Dawson, Kayden, Lennon, and Dorian.
Do you like any of the names in the top 20? Which ones are your favorites?
