It’s that time of year again. Time to exchange hugs and awkward handshakes with the people who saw you through acne breakouts, boyfriend break ups and everything in between.
High school reunion season is here and for most of us that means getting ready for a good time with old friends and classmates we haven’t seen in years. However, for others, class reunions can strike fear in the very bowels of their beings. Fortunately, there are ways you can make the event a fun time:
DO realize that you are not the only one who has aged since graduation. Don’t let your anxiety about personal flaws prevent you from having a good time. Remember that everyone has the same apprehensions about attending class reunions.
DON’T go into the reunion harboring resentment from 10/20/30 years ago. Don’t blame classmates for not calling or writing. Rather, consider starting fresh with old classmates.
DO consider staying at the same hotel as out-of-town guests classmates, even if you live in town. Getting a hotel room where everyone is staying is a great way to have a blast after the reunion. Plus, you won’t have to worry about finding a designated driver to get you home.
DON’T spend the entire reunion with your best friends from high school. Rather, seek out some classmates that you were not that close to. You may find that they now share the same interests as you and you may end up with a new friend.
DO bring a camera to the event. Having photo evidence of some of the reunion hijinks can be priceless. Also, if not everyone can attend the reunion it’s nice to share pictures of the party with him or her.
DON’T pretend to remember someone’s name. It’s fine if you need a gentle reminder. You might even use the opportunity to poke fun at yourself, your age and your lack of memory. It’s a sure bet that you will get a few laughs in the process.
