Making family and friends feel right at home isn’t hard. It just takes a few easy tips. Create a comfortable guest room in no time.
First, you’ll need a bed. This can be a permanent bed set aside only for guests, or it can be an air mattress or a pull out couch. It is a good idea to have at least a full size bed, although a queen size bed will give you more flexibility.
Use soft, comfortable bedding that will allow your guests to drift off to sleep. Also make sure to add extra blankets and pillows so your guests can adjust their comfort as needed. Pillows should be available in both soft and firm.
Include a basket by the bed that offers your guest some favorite things, such as books and magazines or maybe even an MP3 player if you have one to spare. This will help your guests feel comfortable if they happen to get up earlier or stay up later than the rest of the household.
Also include a pitcher or bottles of water and a small snack such as granola bars, homemade cookies, chocolate, fruit, etc. Your guests will be able to satisfy a small hunger without feeling embarrassed or going without.
Personal touches, such as a vase of fresh flowers to brighten the room is also nice.
Keep a guest’s age and temperament in mind when preparing the room. Would your guests with young children appreciate a night light or some quiet puzzles or games? Would an older person like an extra thick blanket, even in summer? These little touches will make your guests feel extra special.
Don’t forget the towels and the soap in the room, so your guests won’t have to wonder where to find them. Include some nice scented soap, but also make sure that you also have some that is hypoallergenic or fragrance free in the case of allergies or sensitive skin.
