I was feeling extra creative today, so instead of the usual advice and information type blog, you are getting something a little less ordinary. Still, the advice is real, so don’t miss the point of this short little poem.
Please, Sleep When Baby Sleeps

If you clean your house while she’s asleep, you’ll never catch a wink;
There will always be more dirty windows, more dishes in the sink.
If you check your e-mail while she sleeps, you’ll never close your eyes;
There will always be more e-mails, more forwards and replies.
Sleep when baby sleeps, please, sleep when baby sleeps;
Newborns are not new for long, so sleep when baby sleeps.
If you call a friend while her eyes are shut, you’ll never shut your own;
There will always be more phone calls, you need sleep more than your phone.
If you go outside and mow the lawn, you’ll miss out on a nap;
The grass will grow and be long again, and you’ll still feel like crap.
Sleep when baby sleeps, please, sleep when baby sleeps;
Newborns are not new for long, so sleep when baby sleeps.
If you watch a movie while she sleeps, you’ll never see the end;
There will always be a new release, remember Netflix is your friend.
If you always work while she’s at rest, you may get plenty done;
But there will always be more work to do, and fatigue’s a loaded gun.
Sleep when baby sleeps, please, sleep when baby sleeps;
Newborns are not new for long, so sleep when baby sleeps.

I don’t have a newborn, but I do have a very active toddler who has just gone down for a nap himself. I think I am going to take my own advice and join him. I need to recharge before he wakes up!
