I love technology. I wish I had the inclination to invent something, because technology is amazing. There have been so many technological advances during my lifetime.
Microwave Oven
My parents bought their house when I was 10 months old. The house was built in 1915 and was always very hot in the summer. Mom didn’t turn on the oven, nor did she allow the children to do so, when the weather was warm because it made the house that much hotter. The microwave certainly helped.
VCR
The first VCR I remember was enormous. One of my sister’s friends brought it to her apartment and we watched Superman on her tiny TV. I was awestruck.
DVR
The person who invented the TV should have special jewels in his crown. Whoever came up with the DVR, deserves his share as well.
HDTV
I didn’t think TV could get any better, but it did.
The latest on the entertainment market is the 3-D TV. I’m intrigued. Ryan Reynolds could stand in my living room, if he were broadcast in 3-D. That won’t happen for many years yet, though. The technology is so new that few compatible items have been released. The real problem facing 3-D TV right now is the cost. It’s certainly out of our price range. I’d prefer a new HDTV. I’m sure few household budgets have room for it, especially in today’s economy.
What’s really funny is I saw an ad for the new TV and the store was giving away a Blu Ray disc player with purchase. It wasn’t that long ago that the newest DVD technology was out of our reach; now it’s a gift with purchase.
Do you have to have the latest technology as fast as possible? Do you wait a few generations before buying? How do you work new technology into your budget?
