Hairdo

When I was a little girl I had very long hair. I loved my hair, but I couldn’t stand to have it touch my neck. Every day my mom would brush my hair and put it up in ponytails or braids. I think I was 12 before I would wear my hair down. Even when I would wear my hair loose, I would pin back the front.

When Jessie joined our family my mom asked me if she had hair. I told mom that for a blonde baby, she had a lot of hair, but compared to the other baby still there she had little. I’ve been looking back through the pictures of Jessie and how much her hair has changed.

Jessie has so much hair now. It’s long down her back and baby fine. She also has a lot of it so it weighs down ponytail holders to the point they slip out after a while. Her hair is a pretty blonde color, although not as white as it once was.

Jessie doesn’t seem to mind if her hair is hanging in her eyes. I’m constantly after her asking if I can pin it back or put it up. She usually tells me no because she doesn’t want to be bothered. Her hair tangles easily, so I know that brushing it isn’t always the most pleasant experience for her. This is still a vast improvement over when I couldn’t put anything in her hair because she’d fidget with it and take it out.

Jessie’s had a change of heart about her hair. She will come to me and say, “Hair do.” This is her way of asking me to do something with her hair. Today she put a bunch of my small claw clips in her hair. I hope that means she’ll be more inclined to wear her Halloween headband this year.
