Working from Home Could Save You Money

Working from home can really save a lot of money. For some companies it is actually to their benefit to allow for work-at-home days. But for the worker it can be even more cost saving.

There are a number of additional costs that come with working hard for your money. One of the most expensive is daycare. It is amazing to me how much some parents spend on daycare. It is almost like paying college tuition.

Then you figure in gas, lunch money and clothing. All of that could be eliminated, if not drastically reduced.

I remember when my husband and I were first married and we had our first son, I was working for a large life and health insurance company in downtown Milwaukee. It was one of those jobs where you had to dress up. At one point my husband began keeping track of the amount of money I spent on my clothing. He even created a pie graph. It was pretty eye-opening to see it laid out right there before me.

Although his intent was to point out that I spend too much money on clothing, I was able to use it to my advantage when I wanted to quit working and become a stay-at-home mom. Almost 3 years later I was finally able to do that. When we added up the cost of daycare, my clothing, gas, parking and other small amounts, we realized it wasn’t worth it.

So with a 3 year old son and pregnant with my daughter, I was able to stop working and become a fulltime stay-at-home mom. Sure, we have had to make a lot of sacrifices along the way. We didn’t have the big home, the expensive cars and all of that. But not only did I get the pleasure of raising my eventually three children but I believe we really saved a lot of money.

Many companies are beginning to see the benefit of work-at-home jobs and so there are more opportunities out there. I feel very fortunate to now be a full-time freelance writer who continues to be home for my children, even though they are now preteens and teens. While saving money has been a definite plus, the biggest bonus has been my availability to my children.

Think about how working from home could save you money.
