The Baby Food Diet?

Have you heard of the baby food diet? I was reading about it this afternoon and one writer’s experience with testing it out for one week. He lost 6 pounds eating just baby food and one adult-size meal per day. I think you’d have to be pretty desperate to lose weight to try this diet. I have had my fair share of baby food and I can’t imagine eating so blandly for a week.

I always made a point to taste test everything before giving it to my son when he was eating purees. I didn’t want to give him something that I thought was gross. The best example I can think of was a jar of “chicken noodle” baby food that he started gagging on. I tasted it and was totally repulsed by the mushy, overly soft noodles and the strange tomato twinged sauce. I did not make him take a second bite. I quickly threw that jar in the trash. I’m sure there are a few babies out there that like chicken noodle baby food, but mine was not one of them and I can’t blame him either!

There were several baby food flavors that my son did seem to enjoy quite a bit, and when I tasted them, I liked them as well. For vegetables, his favorites were sweet peas and the creamed corn. They were both a little sweeter and had good flavor. I was surprised by the peas, since pureed peas don’t exactly look appetizing. The corn did not taste much different from the creamed corn you might find in a can. He also seemed to enjoy sweet potatoes.

Our favorite fruits were the blueberry blend and apple banana. The apple banana tasted like dessert to me. The blueberry reminded me of pie filling. If all babies had to eat were these fruit blends, I’m sure they would never complain. They were good! They are not far from a smoothie.

I don’t think I’ll be going on a baby food diet anytime soon, but I would recommend taste testing your baby’s food. Don’t you want to know why they are making all those cute puckering faces?
