Whole vs Pre-Sliced Apples

Recently tedgar wrote about her family’s trip to the pumpkin patch and her look at what money is worth. Our time is worth something. Our efforts are worth something. We all have a threshold of what we are willing to spend.

It is a lot cheaper to buy a bag of whole apples at the store and cut them up myself when I get home. It is easier, faster, and more convenient to buy a bag of pre-cut apples. The pre-cut apples are more expensive, but the toddler is more likely to eat them than the apples I cut myself so I waste less. At least that’s the theory.

Jessie is on an apple kick currently. Every time she sees a Sonic, McDonald’s, or Burger King, she starts calling from the back seat that she wants apples. I am grateful that these restaurants have added healthy snacks and Jessie doesn’t want fries. I’ve tried bringing apples with me in a baggy and it’s not what she wants. Yes, it’s cheaper to bring from home, but I have to go back to $1.99 at the restaurant vs. waste of what she won’t eat.

I enjoy drinking Diet Coke. I would really love to keep Diet Coke in the house at all times. I’m on a Diet Coke diet for the house. Diet Coke costs too much. I know I’m being unreasonable and prices change, but I don’t like paying more than $2.50 for a 12-pack of Diet Coke. What’s really funny about that is I have no problem paying $1.29 for a bottle of Diet Coke out of the cooler by the checkout at the store or $1.00 for a large Diet Coke at McDonald’s.

Where do you draw the line with what you’ll spend? Do you take the easy way out sometimes?
