Free In Flight Wi-Fi This Holiday Season From Google

Virgin airplane Those of us who live far away from the other members of our family have a decision to make this holiday season. Should we send them their gifts by mail, or should we book a flight and make travel plans so that we can visit our families in person? The answer often comes down to a matter of cost, and a matter of convenience. This year, Google wants to make your holiday flight a little bit nicer, by offering free in flight wi-fi.

Personally, I hate flying. For me, it is because I just can’t get comfortable with the idea of being in a metal tube that is zooming through the air, thousands of feet off the ground. Every little bump of turbulence makes me worry! For most people, however, their frustration with flying comes from all the added fees they encounter.

The price of an airline ticket, no matter where you go, is expensive. Some airlines charge extra if you want to carry your luggage with you. Want to have something to eat after takeoff? It will cost you something. Want to watch the movie, and hear it as well? There is a fee for the headphones. Does the air in the cabin make you chilly? There is a fee for the use of a blanket. It’s enough to make people irate!

Finally, there is something that passengers can enjoy for free! Google chrome is offering free Gogo Inflight Wi-Fi on every domestic flight (on participating airlines), between November 20, 2010, and January 2, 2010. So, whether you are planning on going to grandma’s house for Thanksgiving dinner, to visit your in-laws for Christmas, or to somewhere exciting for New Year’s Eve, you might be able to take advantage of this deal.

Your flight must be with one of the airlines that are participating. Right now, this includes Delta, Virgin America, and AirTran. The plane itself, of course, must be Wi-Fi equipped in order for this to work. This free offer is connected with GoGo Inflight, Google, and the Google Chrome Web browser, but you don’t actually have to use a Google product in order to access the free Wi-Fi. It will work on laptop computers, and hand held devices like the iPhone, iPad, or iPod Touch as well. Get online, relax, and enjoy your flight.
