Do you have an extra Christmas tree skirt laying around in a box? Or maybe you spotted some tree skirts on sale? Put those tree skirts to good use with these creative ideas.
By the way, did you know that Christmas tree skirts came about in order to protect the floor or furniture from dripping candle wax? Today’s Christmas lights eliminate that problem, but the tradition of the skirt remains–and it is a nice way to cover up a less than attractive tree stand.
Top a Table
Tree skirts are usually very luxurious, with rich fabrics, colors and trims. Take advantage of this to make a nice display of holiday grandeur when you use a tree skirt to top a table.
This idea works best for a round table, but you can adapt it for a square or rectangular table as well, simply by first placing a white tablecloth underneath the skirt first.
Spread the tree skirt evenly across your table and then close the open ends of the skirt. Some tree skirts come with self-fastening tabs or ribbon ties. If yours doesn’t simply use small pins.
You can hide the center opening by covering it with a festive centerpiece.
Create a Holiday Display
One of my favorite ways to use a Christmas tree skirt is as a backdrop and covering for a holiday display. Get out all of those little houses, nutcrackers, special ornaments or other Christmas objects that you would like to display. Cover a windowsill, mantle or table first with the tree skirt and then display your treasures. To create more than one level of the display, which adds interest, place a small box underneath one side of the skirt.
The slit in the skirt can work for you, allowing you to better manipulate the cloth to hide wires from lighted displays.
Just as with the table topper, you may need to cover up that center hole.
