Someone’s feeling pleased about her strange behavior
This morning I had a perfectly normal article idea picked out. Before writing it, however, I first took the dog on her morning walk. She proceeded to put on one of the most ridiculous displays I’ve ever seen her perform and I realized I had to write about it.
Any of you with dogs likely have seen this before: your dog is having trouble doing its number two business, so it fusses a little at first. The dog takes forever selecting a spot to go, and then ends up hunched over in a couple different locations in the same area before finally getting to it.
If the dog is really having trouble, it might trot from one area to another while still in the process of going. Sometimes it will go in both locations before finishing. Chihiro has done this before, but never to the extent of this morning.
My dog must have hunched up and done her business in about five different locations all within the same five-foot radius. She even did the famous little butt scoot over the grass at one point. I’m calling her display the epic poop scoot panic.
Chihiro’s motions are so frantic when she performs her little poop dance. I know it’s probably just difficult to run while still somewhat hunched up, and it probably doesn’t feel all that great either, but I can’t help but find the whole process a little amusing.
Chihiro scrunched herself up to do her business in about eight different locations, actually getting something done in about five of them. Most of the work was done on the first job, so the resulting panic and flurry was mostly pointless.
I realize I ought to be worried about Chihiro. I am, a bit. After some online research I can’t find any specific details as to why she runs around like that when she’s having trouble going. I can tell you all about why dogs always pace back and forth and turn in circles a bit before they go (it’s about searching for scents; they’ll go in an area with a scent they like and avoid areas with the scents of another dog), but I discovered nothing about this morning’s particular performance.
I know it has to do with her having trouble going. It’s not total constipation, or she wouldn’t be able to go at all. Most of the time I see her do this, she’s having trouble because she ate something she can’t really digest.
Usually the evidence is soon on display, if I hadn’t already found the torn remains of what she’d eaten. However, I’ve seen no evidence of foul puppy play either scattered around my apartment or that came up either end this morning.
Given the lack of any concrete evidence as to why my dog had her aforementioned troubles, I’ll just have to wait and see if she keeps experiencing problems. It’s the same tactic I always use when Chihiro acts abnormally: wait and see if the problem repeats and then attempt to treat it using the additional evidence. If she’s able to go normally the next few times, then I’ll just have to assume this was a one time, if amusing, fluke.
