In my current ward, they have an incentive for the Relief Society sisters to re-read all the General Conference talks before the next General Conference-Food! It’s really a genius idea. They reward the sisters that re-read all of the Conference talks in the Ensign with a breakfast before the next General Conference starts. This is the first time I have ever seen this done in a ward, and I’m loving the idea. Unfortunately, I didn’t get the memo for the April conference, so when they reminded everyone a few weeks before the breakfast, I felt there was no time to catch up, but this conference, I am going to make it a goal to re-read all of the talks. How do YOU fit this into your scripture study routine?
It just seems like sometimes there is no time for all the things I need to do to keep my spirituality up. Re-reading the talks would definitely help with that, but I don’t want to sacrifice my scripture study, or prayer time, or preparation for next week’s lesson, etc. etc. So, how do we squeeze it in? Here are some ideas:
1. Turn off the TV. I know, this is a hard one for me. I just want to “veg” a the end of the night after my kids are in bed, but if you make it a goal to read a conference talk before you turn it on, then maybe you’ll be able to re-read them all by next conference!
2. Visit the new General Conference Website.
3. There are 39 talks in all including the General Priesthood and Relief Society Sessions. If you make it a goal to read 2 a week, you should complete it by next conference.
4. Blog about the talks that you love.
5. Study with a friend.
There are so many ways that you can incorporate these wonderful talks into part of your study program. And, it really will be worthwhile. We are so blessed as members of the church to have Prophets, Apostles, and other leaders to guide us. We certainly can’t soak it all in the first time. So, pick up your Ensign today and read a talk!
