Isn’t it amazing how much craft kits cost these days. A bucket of foam crafts costs about $8 at the regular price. I admit that I do occasionally buy these kits anyway, because they are so convenient. Most of the time, though, I try to prepare my own craft kits ahead of time, especially when I need a bunch of craft kits for a group of kids in school or in church. My own kids enjoy putting crafts together as well.
Preparing my own craft kits really has saved me money.
This week, I’m sharing some of my favorite ideas for creating your own craft kits. You can cheaply prepare one or two kits or 50, depending on your needs. If you missed the previous ideas, you can click here and here.
Clothespin Baby Jesus
This craft is good for slightly older children who might get bored with easier crafts. While it is simple, it takes a little bit of dexterity. This craft works best with the use of a glue gun, so you may want an adult on hand to help, depending on the age of the children.
Supplies to prepare the kit:
- Rounded clothes pins
- Strips of cloth (an old sheet usually supplies more than enough)
- Twine
- Paper or plastic bags if you want to package the kits individually.
Additional supplies to have on hand for assembly day:
- Glue gun and glue sticks (white glue will work too, but it will require a long dry time)
- Thin felt tip marker in black or blue
Preparation directions:
- Cut the cloth into strips
- Cut the twine into lengths
- Directions to make the Baby Jesus:
- Draw a face on the round part of the clothespin.
- Wrap the cloth around the clothespin to create the swaddling clothes.
- Tie one of the lengths of twine around the clothespin and glue into place using a glue gun.
