All of us have things that are special to us that we keep and treasure. When it comes to relationships, how do you know if he or she is a keeper? What I mean is someone you’d want to be with forever, that you’d never want to be parted from.
One of the key ingredients in any relationship is care and concern for the other person. It is being willing to go out of your way to do something special for that other person. That’s what love is all about, caring about the other person’s needs more than your own. Sometimes this shows up in big issues like choosing to go with your husband to a new place even though you are comfortable and happy where you are and know it will mean major upheaval as you settle into a new town, build new relationships or get a new job yourself. It may also work the other way where the husband is prepared to give up his rights if a good opportunity and work situation occurs for his wife.
Other times it can be in the little everyday happenings you see that element of care and concern, of your loved one putting them self out for you. I saw a great example of that this morning.
Last night Mick and I watched a movie, which I said I’d like to keep. I know Mick wouldn’t watch it again and I don’t expect him too. But sometimes if I’m sick I like to have a movie to watch instead of reading, especially if I have a headache. So Mick transferred the movie across to a disc.
Instead of just transferring it across complete with ads, he painstakingly went though and deleted the ads as he knows when I watch a taped movie I hate having to deal with ads. As you probably gathered me and the DVD remote are not overly well acquainted. It took him a while to do it, but he knew it would make it easier and more pleasurable for me. That’s the sort of thing someone does when they are a keeper.
