This month’s message from the First Presidency is one that is good for us all to be reminded of. Especially at Christmas. It is a talk titled, Can We See the Christ? by Elder Uchtdorf. It speaks of remembering Christ at this very busy, hectic time of year. One thing that he mentioned in this talk that spoke to me, was how when the Christ child was born, how many people were so close to him, but did not know it? Can you imagine? Living close to where the Savior was born, and missing the whole thing?
It is the same in our lives right now. Within each of us lies the power to control our own spirituality. Especially at Christmas time. This should be a time of celebrating, of reflecting, and a time when we feel the Spirit the most. But, sometimes, all I feel is the mad rush of a million things to do, a feeling that there are not enough presents under the tree, or the worries that someone will be disappointed Christmas morning. Sometimes I wish I could wipe away all of the commercialism, and see what is right in front of me. The true meaning of Christmas.
It is the same even at times in our lives when there are no holidays or special events. We get so caught up in day to day living that we forget to see what is right in front of us. We forget to pick up our scriptures and read about our Savior, and the love He has for us. The strength He can give us. We forget to pray to our Heavenly Father and thank Him for all that we have. We don’t see what is right in front of us. That is, our Savior, reaching out to us. Our Savior, on the other side of that door, waiting for us to open it. Our Savior ready to truly save us from the chaos that is our lives.
I would even venture to ask the question, Can we FEEL the Christ? Do we know that He loves us, and do we truly have a relationship with Him? Do we feel the influence of the Holy Ghost daily? If not, then it is as simple as opening our eyes, and our hearts, picking up the tools the Lord has given us, and seeing what is right there.
