Sexiest Man and Babe of the Year Separate

Apparently, being named the Sexiest Man Alive can be a curse at times. Actor Nick Nolte had that horrifying mug shot seen around the world, Patrick Swayze lost his life to pancreatic, and Mel Gibson, well, I don’t have enough room in this blog to go into all his woes.

So is there really a Sexiest Man curse? Maybe not, but if there is, Ryan Reynolds seems to just have fallen victim to it. Just a month after being named PEOPLE’s Sexiest Man, Reynolds and his wife of two years, actress Scarlett Johansson (and also GQ’s 2010 Babe of the Year) have announced their separation. Apparently beautiful repels beautiful in this case.

The couple released a statement which read, “After long and careful consideration on both our parts, we’ve decided to end our marriage. We entered our relationship with love and it’s with love and kindness we leave it. While privacy isn’t expected, it’s certainly appreciated.”

Ryan, who was once engaged to rocker Alanis Morisette, and Scarlett began dating in 2007. They became engaged on May 5, 2008 and married that September 27 in Tofino, British Columbia.

Although both are actors, the couple seemed to be grounded. While neither has said who filed for the divorce first, rumors are that Scarlett was the one who filed first and the problem was one that plagues many celebrity couples – distance. However, New York Daily News is reporting that Scarlett may have filed for divorce because Ryan was getting a little too close to Green Lantern co-star Blake Lively.

I wouldn’t feel too sorry for either Ryan or Scarlett. Both are young, beautiful, and talented. Ryan’s Green Lantern is in post-production as is The Croods. He is currently filming The Change-Up, while R.I.P.D., Most Wanted, and Safe House is in pre-production and Deadpool has just been announced. Not quite as busy, but no slouch herself, Scarlett has We Bought a Zoo and The Avengers in pre-production and Under the Skin has just been announced.
