Today I answered the door in my pyjamas. It was 11 am. This is not unusual for me.
First, I work at home. Secondly, many days we homeschool. Some days we do not leave the house very early and I like it that way.
My daughter also likes to sleep in. She’s gradually recovering from the flu and she needs a lot of sleep these days. Or perhaps she’s growing. We also get to bed somewhat late. Whatever the reason, sometimes she sleeps in and I like that too. I work, she sleeps, life is good.
If we had to get to school in the morning this would not happen. No matter what, I would need to drag her out of bed, even if she was feeling a little off or she’d had a bad sleep the night before. I would need to go through the morning rush of getting ready for school and get her off on time.
I am glad that homeschooling gives us the flexibility to sleep in and go off the standard North American schedule of get up, run around, drop off the kids, go to work. I am not a morning person and I find mornings stressful. So does my daughter. Both of us like to get up slowly and gradually, eat breakfast, snuggle, and then start the day.
We’re not lazy. I get up early and work and I’m glad that I can do so in the quiet morning. She’s busy pretty much every minute of the day, at least with invented activities. It’s just that we like a slower morning, and homeschooling facilitates that.
And by the way, you’ll be glad to know that my pyjamas look like sweats, so no one really notices that I’m wearing them. Or perhaps I just have very polite neighbors.
