Looking Back And Thinking Ahead

As the end of the year approaches, many of us are likely to reflect on what we have accomplished in our home-based careers this year. It is a good time to do some reflecting, as well as some planning for the new year. I always get excited about the beginning of a new year because no matter how the current year has been the new year is a clean slate, three hundred and sixty-five days of pure potential.

For anyone who is thinking of leaving the workplace and going home to work, it is also a great time of year. It is a time to think about your dreams and make bold moves. If you have been thinking about starting a home-based business but you have avoided sitting down to assess whether it will work and which type of business to start, do it now. Whether you decide that a home-based business will work for you or not does not matter – you will have gone through the process of deciding, and that will being clarity to whichever direction you choose.

For those of us that have existing home-based businesses, there are a few questions that we can ask ourselves about our work this past year. One useful thing to ask yourself is what you have been doing right. Your answer to this question will help you to understand why your business is succeeding and what you must keep doing to keep it that way. On the flip side of that, you should also ask yourself what you could improve on. For me, the answer to this question usually involves organization and time management. Once you have identified what needs improving, make a plan of action for how you will improve it. It is one thing to say that you need to improve something, and quite another to actually take the steps required to improve it.

What are your proudest moments of 2010? What will you be improving in 2011?
